COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Police say special operations will be carried out from today (April 11) to arrest motorists driving under the influence.
The DIG in charge of Motor Traffic Ajith Rohana noted that the special operations will be carried out until the 20th of this month.
It was reported that 8000 Police officers have been deployed for the special operation.
Meanwhile, the fine related to a number of traffic offences was increased from April 2nd.
The government increased the fine for driving under the influence, which was between Rs. 3500 to Rs. 7000 to Rs. 25000 to Rs. 30000.
The Excise Department noted that the liquor shops will be closed across the country on the 13th and 14th of this month. They added that though proposals have been made to continue it until the 15th yet they have not reached a decision regarding this matter.
