Two Uma Oya power plants will output 135MW at Rs 3.50 to Rs 4.00

COLOMBO (News 1st) - State Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Ajith Mannapperuma engaged in discussions with the officials in charge of the power plant built under the Uma Oya project at Karadagolla today(April 10). The State Minister also conducted an inspection tour following discussions. It is built under the Uma Oya multipurpose proposed method, this power plant is built 700 meters below the ground level. Ajith Mannapperuma noted that current power crisis is nothing to be trifled with. He said that the project has two power plants,  One plant has a capacity of 15MW while the other provides 120MW. He noted that the overall construction will cost around Rs.86bn. The power plants will be able to produce a KiloWatt between Rs 3.50-4.00 compared to the current rates of Rs.28-30.00.
