COLOMBO (News 1) –  Nine suspects were arrested in Kapugollawa, Horowpathana for transporting sand illegally.

News 1st correspondent noted that the racket was in operation for a long period in the Yaang Oya reservoir in Kapugollawa.

Although a license had been issued to the suspects by the authorities of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, the amount they were transporting at the moment of the raid had exceeded the amount they were allowed.

The Special Task Force carried out the raid based on a tip-off by the locals.

The suspects are due to be produced before the Kebithigollewa Magistrate Court today(April 08).
