Heat wave to continue till late May

Colombo (News 1st): The highest temperature 37.6 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m was recorded from Vavuniya. According to the Meteorological Department, Anuradhapura recorded 37.4 while Kurunegala recorded 36.6 degrees Celsius. They noted the prevailing extreme heat conditions are expected to continue till late May. The Department of Meteorology said that the sun is directly over Sri Lanka till April 15th. They went onto note the sun will be directly positioned in Ahungalla, Ganegoda, Kalubovitina, Ketawala, Walalgoda, Sooriyawewa and Galkaduwa at 12.12 this afternoon. According to the Disaster Management Centre, 321,000 people from 75,416 families have been affected due to the prevailing extreme heat weather.
