Colombo (News 1st): The Army headquarters has announced a general amnesty period for all army deserters from April 22nd to the May 10th. Army media spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Attapatu said that the general amnesty period was announced based on a recommendation made by President Maithripala Sirisena. This newly-devised General Amnesty facilitates the discharge of all Army Officers who are absent without leave for more than 21 days and other rankers who are absent for more than 6 months by April 22, 2019, and those absentees willing to rejoin the Army after their absence of more than 6 months.
