Special train and bus service for the festival season

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special bus and train service is to be deployed for the Sinhala Tamil New Year season. The bus service will be in operation from tomorrow(April 04) afternoon until the 22nd while the train service will commence on April 10th. SLTB Timetable Manager, Sajeewa Diluksha noted that the first phase of the service will commence with the deployment of 1,500 extra buses. With the additional buses in operation, the SLTB would be operating a total of 5,800 buses, islandwide, for the convenience of passengers. He noted that the second phase of the service will commence with the conclusion of the festival season. The SLTB also plans on increasing the frequency of buses operating along the Southern Expressway. Additionally, the Railway Department noted that they intend to add around 20 long-distance trips during the festive season focusing on the areas of Badulla, Jaffna, and Beliatta. The department also noted that they intend to add trains depending on the requirement for other railway routes as well.
