COLOMBO (News 1st) -  UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa participated in an event at Rikillagaskada and shared his views on current Sri Lankan economy. He noted that the UNP government takes advice from the Colombo office of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank and tries to apply them to rural and underdeveloped areas without even inquiring what they actually need. He added that the current government had adopted economic policies not practically applicable to rural areas. He noted that millions of people suffer due to poverty. He added that the government is trying to hide their inability to run the country as the Minister of Finance carries out the duties of the Central Bank Governor. Namal Rajapaksa questioned how the government will reduce the budget deficit to 3.5% by 2020? He argued that the government will only do that by increasing tax revenues and decreasing the state expenses. He added that all these measures are taken by Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mangala Samaraweera to impress the IMF and World Bank. He finally noted that the government has been left with no alternative but to bow down to the demands of the MPs in order to pass the budget proposal as they do not have a stable government.
