Stock of beedi leaves seized in Talaimannar

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Navy arrested two suspects in the seas of Talaimannar with over 912kg of beedi leaves. The suspects aged 32 and 38-year-old are residents of Mannar. The beedi leaves were in 27 gunny bags and were transported in a dinghy boat when it was intercepted by a naval patrol who were patrolling 5 nautical miles away from the Talaimannar lighthouse last night (March 20). The Navy suspect that the stock of beedi leaves was smuggled from India. The stock of beedi leaves and the two suspects are to be handed over to the Jaffna Customs Office.
