COLOMBO (News 1st) – Five suspects including three women have been arrested by the officials of the STF stationed in Jaffna for interrupting their duties during the arrest of a group of people who were engaging in illegal sand mining.

The Police said that the arrest was made when they had raided an illegal sand mining site in Ariyale last evening (March 16). Upon arresting the group of sand miners certain individuals had attempted to free them. The STF thereby had arrested the five suspects along with a tractor and a motorbike. The suspects have been identified as residents of Ariyale.

They are due to be presented before the Jaffna Magistrates Court today (March 17).
