Colombo (News 1st): Convening a media briefing in Colombo today (March 12), the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka made their comments regarding the budget proposals for 2019. Senior Deputy President of the Chamber Nandika Buddhipala noted that for the past period, they have witnessed the rupee appreciating slightly after the rupee depreciated by about 20%. He said currently they do not believe the currency is going to appreciate by the end of this year as well. Buddhupala noted that a couple of years back they tried to appoint a committee, to look at the effectiveness of the budget implementation and to report it back to parliament, but he noted he is not sure if the committee is functional. However, he noted that such a committee is very important.
