100,000 lenses donated

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An event to donate 100,000 lenses was held at the Colombo General Hospital under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr Rajitha Senaratne. He noted that he met 120,000 people who were blind or soon to be blind as they could not afford lenses due to poverty. He added that only Rs 1.5mn was allocated for cancer patients and when that amount exceeded most of the patients died because they could no longer afford medicine. He added that it was a pathetic plight.
