Supreme Court issues an order preventing arrest of Admiral Karannagoda

Colombo (News 1st): The Supreme Court issued an order on the Inspector General of Police preventing the arrest of former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda over the abduction and forced disappearance of 11 youth from Colombo in 2008. The former Navy Commander was ordered by the court to appear before the CID on March 11th at 09 am to provide a statement over the incident. President's Counsel Romesh de Silva appearing for Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda promised his client would appear before the court when the summons is served on him, in the event the Attorney General decides to file indictments against his client with the High Court. In addition PC Romesh de Silva promised his client would not travel overseas without prior approval. The former Navy Commander had filed an FR petition with the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent his arrest and it was considered by Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Vijith Malalgoda, and P.Pathman Surasena.
