COLOMBO (News 1st) - The JVP Bala Mandala Meeting of Nikaweratiya electorate was held yesterday(March 03). JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake shared his thoughts on the dissolution of the executive presidency. Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted that they have proposed a governance structure based on parliament instead of the executive presidency. He supported his argument by reflecting on to the five presidential campaigns since 1994 where all the appointed presidents promised to dissolve the executive presidency. He noted that during the next few days JVP intends to meet all the other party leaders to discuss the matter. He added that they have already scheduled to meet the opposition leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa on March 6th. Consequently, they are to carry out discussions with the UNP, Muslim Congress, Tamil National Alliance, National Union of Workers led by Palani Digambaran, and All Ceylon Makkal Congress led by Rishad Bathiudeen. He noted that they will make arrangements to meet all the 225 MPs of the parliament for discussions and subsequently let the public in on the matter. "..anyone who doesn't have a fear of the executive presidency, democracy, and people should vote in favor of this proposal; parliament based governing approach..." he concluded.
