Colombo (News1st) - The Ministry of Defense has decided to launch a survey into the number of pistols and revolvers that had been obtained by various parties for personal reasons.
A senior official at the MOD noted that the survey is to be conducted during the first 2 weeks of March. The survey will also look into 12 gauge rifles as well as repeater pistols issued to security firms.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that a total of 19 firearms were not produced before the MOD during the recently conducted survey. The MOD noted that the 474 firearms were presented for inspection during the recent survey into firearms used for gaming purposes.
The survey will look into whether the firearms have the necessary paperwork, licences, and serial numbers. Operations are continuing to apprehend unlicensed firearms. The MOD noted that actions will be taken against individuals in possession of such firearms under the Firearms ordinance.
