COLOMBO (News 1st) – We are living in an era where the food we consume has become a key factor in deciding our life expansion. Excess consumption of food containing fat, sugar and salt has made our generation victims of high blood pressure, diabetics and cholesterol.
The Health ministry has come up with a mechanism to provide information to consumers on what they consume.
A colour code formula is to be introduced by them to indicate the fat and salt concentration in solid food. Up to date, this method was only used to indicate the sugar concentration of the food items in the market.
The Deputy Director Dr. Lakshman Gamlath of the Ministry of Health noted that this decision was reached as a measure to minimise the spread of non-communicable diseases
