Police crackdown : 3711 arrested islandwide

COLOMBO (News 1st) - 3711 suspects including 938 warrant holders have been arrested in a special operation conducted islandwide. A force of 17,213 police officers were deployed to conduct this operation. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the operation was conducted from 11.00 pm last night till dawn today (February 23) as per the orders of the IGP. 768 persons driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) were also arrested. Further, cases are to be filed against 5818 motorists who violated road rules.
