COLOMBO (News 1st) - More than half of the Sorabora Wewa in Mahiyangana has been covered by the water hyacinth (Japan jabara) plant. The News 1st correspondent reported that tourist boats have encountered great difficulty as a result of this situation. Fishermen also complain of not being able to engage in their day to day activities. These two activities are the main livelihoods of the area residents. Although locals have tried to contain the issue by building a wall along the tank, that too has not solved the issue.
