Colombo (News 1st): Police fired tear gas to disperse a group of people who launched a protest in Padiyathalawa near the post office obstructing the Ampara – Kandy road. The protest was staged against tipper trucks filled with sand travelling at high speed through their villages.

Police noted that few protesters who behaved in an unruly manner were arrested.
