New building for Sri Vishudarama Temple, Debarawewa

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The foundation stone was laid for the three-storeyed building of Sri Vishudarama Temple in Debaraweva, Tissamaharama by the Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs and the Deputy Leader of the United National Party, Sajith Premadasa. The building will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 6.5mn. The event also saw the opening of the Ranasinghe Premadasa Pirivena. The golden fence at the Temple was also unveiled during the event. A gold plated Buddha statue which was gifted to Hema Premadasa, wife of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa by Zen Fia Thero in Thailand was also placed at the temple. Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Amarapura Nikaya shared his thoughts at the occasion. He recalled how the late President Premadasa did not want his son, Sajith to enter politics for just being the son of Ranasinghe Premadasa. He wanted his son to find his own way in politics. He added that Ranasinghe Premadasa wanted his son to know the public and their suffering to become a better leader. Sajith Premadasa addressed the crowd at the event. He noted that he would implement a silent religious development program without making Buddha Sasana a part of politics. He stressed his ministry will implement a 10-year project to develop all temples in the country with the strength and support of the President and the Prime Minister.
