Chainsaws to be registered from today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - All chainsaw machines that are currently in use must be registered from today (February 20) as per an order issued by the President. Issuing a notice the Defence Ministry says that all chainsaw machines used in state, semi-government, private institutions and used for private or corporate purposes must be registered at the nearest police station. A special license and a number plate will be issued to identify those chainsaws that have already been registered. This initiative is to combat deforestation and every other illegal activity carried out with the use of chainsaw machines.
