COLOMBO (News 1st) -  Convening a media briefing today (February 19), the Government Medical Officers Association made a request to the President. Dr Nalinda Herath, the Assistant Secretary of GMOA addressed the media. He said that the Health Minister should be more considerate of the well being of Sri Lankan citizens. He said that there were numerous irregularities regarding the import of medical drugs and the COPE is to make the irregularities public soon. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the Medical Council to uphold and determine the rights of patients. He noted that there are attempts to appoint graduates with foreign qualifications, some of whom have not even passed their GCE A-Levels.  He added that under these circumstances the lives of the patients will be at stake. He argued that due to the Health Minister's conduct it wouldn't be a surprise if the public stopped accepting him to be the Health Minister of this country. Consequently, Dr Nalinda Herath requested the President to take the Health Ministry under his purview.
