Another Madush accomplice "Wedikande Kasun" arrested in Kiribathgoda

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An accomplice to "Makandure Madush" named Kasun Dananjaya alias "Wedikande Kasun" was arrested this morning(February 19). The arrest was made when the Mirihana Police Special Operations Unit conducted a search operation in Wedikanda, Kiribathgoda. It is alleged that the suspect is connected to an incident that took place on November 5th, 2018 in the Pannipitiya area in Maharagama, where a group of people had entered a house as police officers and attacked its owners with firearms and stolen gems and diamonds. The suspect is also accused of abducting a foreigner. The abducted person, who was to purchase the stolen gems, was later found in Maharagama after the suspects had fled the scene. The 31-year-old suspect is to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court tomorrow(February 20) for an identification parade. Meanwhile, the court has granted permission for the underworld gang member, Dissanayake Chanidu Chanilka Sankalpa alias "Raina" to be held in detention for further questioning. The order was issued when the suspect who was arrested by the Police Special Task Force was produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate today(February 19). Interrogations revealed that he is a close associate of underworld gang leader "Keselwatte Dinuka". Police state fourteen underworld gang leaders have been arrested in Sri Lanka following the arrest of "Makandure Madush" and several others in Dubai. For the time being, twelve accomplices of "Makandure Madush" and two allies of "Kanjipani Imran" have been arrested. Additionally, investigations are underway by the Terrorist Investigation Division in relation to the property acquired and owned by the arrested drug offenders.
