Amal Perera along with others to be produced before courts on Feb 27

COLOMBO (News1st) - Investigations on the notorious drug lord and underworld kingpin, Makandure Madush and his accomplices, have been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department. Since the arrest of Makandure Madush and his accomplices, Sri Lanka is yet to send a state officer or police officer to Dubai, to provide further information to support the investigations. A senior official from the Defence Ministry stated, in the event that the Dubai government requires any support, a group including an officer from the FCID will be dispatched for the purpose. The senior officer also stated that all investigation regarding Madush and his accomplices, conducted on a local platform have been handed over to the CID. The STF stated that investigations to identify others who had close connections with Madush and his accomplices will continue. The STF also stated that more than six members attached to powerful underworld gangs have been arrested during such investigations. Meanwhile, Attorney at Law Udul Premarathna who is currently in Dubai had met with singer Amal Perera for the first time at the Dubai police this morning (February 17). The lawyer said that Amal Perera had said that they are due to be produced before courts on the 27th of this month and that 15 to 16 persons who had visited Dubai with him on tourist visas will also be produced with him. The singer had also said that the arrest was made when he was singing and his son was playing the guitar. When the lawyer had questioned the singer about his alleged connection with the former DIG Nalaka De Silva, the singer had said that upon a request made by a friend that he and another friend of his had met with the DIG adding that there was no other connection except for this brief meeting. The lawyer added that Amal Perera had also claimed that legal action will be taken against such media institutions who had reported false information of such nature when he arrives back at Sri Lanka.
