Over 9 million collected through fines - CAA

1530 CAA raids nets 2226 persons and over Rs 9 million in fines

COLOMBO (News1st) - The Consumer Affairs Authority collected Rs. 9,493,500 as fines in over 1530 raids conducted in various parts of the country within the year. Cases have been filed against 2226 persons for selling electrical equipment with low standards and selling water bottles at prices higher than the usual. As per the statistics of the Authority, cases have been filed against 2119 vendors in 1376 raids conducted in January while Rs. 9,028,500 was collected as fines within the month. In the month of February, cases were filed against 107 vendors in 154 raids conducted island wide while Rs. 4,65,000 was collected through fines.
