COLOMBO (News 1st) - An SUV with 68kg of Kerala Ganja crashed into a pedestrian bridge in Maradana this morning (February 14). The passengers and driver had bolted from the scene. A sibling of the owner of the SUV was arrested. According to police, the owner of the SUV is employed in the Middle East. The sibling had been named as the caretaker of the vehicle since the owner of the vehicle is overseas. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle was rented out to a hotel in Bambalapitiya. Police suspect that the person who rented the SUV had used it to smuggle drugs. Three special police teams are conducting investigations into the incident. The Police added that the seized stock of drugs will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau. According to Police, the suspects were arrested based on CCTV footage obtained from the area.
