COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has informed all commercial banks to activate an SMS alert service to inform its customers of all transactions at ATMs.
Director of Payment and Settlement Dharmasri Kumaratunga said steps have been taken to issue a circular with necessary instructions in this regard.
He said these measures were taken in response to irregularities which had taken place at various ATMs recently.
He advised the general public to get registered for the newly introduced SMS alert service in order to carry out their transactions in a more secure manner.
At the same time, police asked the general public to be on their guard for suspicious persons or activities that occur near ATMs.
