COLOMBO (News 1st) - UNP MP Chaminda Wijesiri who was accused of assaulting a police constable was released on bail today(February 13). UNP MP Chaminda Wijesiri was summoned to the Bandarawela Magistrate Court today (February 13). MP Chaminda Wijesiri and the ministerial security officer who was involved in the matter surrendered themselves to the court this  morning. They were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 500, 000 and a cash bail of Rs. 10,000 per person. Additionally, Keerthi Kumburuhena, the magistrate of Bandarawela ordered the individuals to appear at Bandarawela Police station on Sundays. The assault occurred as a result of an argument with the officials of the Narcotics Bureau that took place last Sunday (February 10). One of the police constables who sustained injuries in the altercation was admitted to the Bandarawela hospital. The driver of the MP who had also admitted himself to the hospital allegedly claiming he was also assaulted was taken into custody last Monday (February 11). The case is to be taken up on the 25th of this month(February).
