Reuters - The notorious 61-year-old drug lord Joaquin Guzman Loera might spend the rest of his life behind bars as he was found guilty on all counts by the New York court on Tuesday. Guzman, better known as El Chapo, is accused of 10 counts including drug trafficking, money laundering, weapons charges and murder conspiracy. Data released by the U.S. prosecutor show that El Chapo led the Sinaloa Cartel from 1989 to 2014. During his time, the international drug trafficking, money laundering, and organized crime syndicate smuggled at least 155 tons of drugs into the U.S., making some 14 billion U.S. dollars. This is not the first time El Chapo has been captured and sentenced. The notorious drug dealer has a record of escaping two maximum security prisons: one by hiding in a laundry cart and the other by exiting through a mile-long tunnel that started in his prison shower. In 2016, El Chapo was re-captured and extradited to the U.S. a year later. The sentence will be announced by the U.S court on June 25.
