COLOMBO (News 1st) - A programme to create awareness among industrialists was held in Dankotuwa Industrial Zone in Wennappuwa yesterday (Febraury 11). The event was held under the auspices of Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Buddhika Pathirana. The Deputy Minister claimed that many industries in the country do not have enough labour despite the high wages paid to them in comparison to the other South Asian countries.  He said that the few who turn up only work for a few hours and spend more hours not working. The Deputy Minister said that due to this issue that industrialists have requested to get trained and semi-trained labour from overseas, especially from Bangladesh. Deputy Minister Pathirana said that there is no objection from the Ministry for this proposal because they need workers to carry out the operations of the industries.
