COLOMBO (News 1st) - Investigations are on-going into the malfunction of an elevator in the parliament complex. The investigations so far revealed that the incident was not an act of disruption. Sergeant-at-arms Narendra Fernando said that further investigations are underway. A special team was deployed for this purpose. Investigations are on to identify the reason the emergency bell did not ring when the elevator malfunctioned. The investigation covers all nine elevators within the parliamentary complex. The final report is due to be presented to the Secretary-General of Parliament this week. Meanwhile, the elevator has been restricted for six persons to travel until investigations are complete. Earlier, the limit was 13 persons. On February 7th, 12 parliamentarians were stuck in the elevator. The MPs filed a complaint on the incident. The management of the parliament noted that this elevator has been in use for more than 35 years.
