SLPP and SLFP hold discussions on forming new alliance

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special meeting was held last night (February 06) on the proposed alliance to be formed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Permauna (SLPP). The meeting was held at the President's official residence under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The meeting was joined by the opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, Professor G. L. Peiris, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Mahinda Amaraweera, Dinesh Gunawardena, Wimal Weerawansha, Udaya Gammanpila, Douglas Devananda, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, A. H. M. Athaulla and Professor Thissa Vitharana. Following the meeting, MP Thilanga Sumathipala speaking to News 1st said that a few representatives of the SLFP were also appointed to the SLPP committee appointed to form a new political alliance. The committee is headed by Dullas Alahapperuma. The representatives of the SLFP appointed to the committee are; Dayasiri Jayasekara, Thilanga Sumathipala, A. H. M. Athaullah and Douglas Devananda. It was also proposed at the committee to present the agreements regarding the formation of the new alliance within the next two weeks. Following the committee discussions, the party leaders of the alliance headed by President Maithripala Sirisena are due to convene on the 16th and 17th of this month.
