Special preparations for prison inmates on Independence

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Prisons note that 545 prison inmates will receive Presidential pardon in line with the 71st Independence celebrations today (February 04). Prisons Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya said that the inmates receiving Presidential pardon are those convicted of minor offenses. He further noted that inmates convicted of major offenses including those issued with the death penalty are not included in the 545 inmates. Meanwhile, relatives of prison inmates have been granted the facility to meet the inmates from 9.00 am today (February 04). They will also be allowed to accept cooked food from their relatives.
