COLOMBO (News 1st) – The first death anniversary of the Chief Incumbent of the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya and former Chancellor of the Sri Jayawardenapura University Venerable Professor Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thero was marked today (February 03).

An alms-giving for 100 Buddhist monks was held today in memory of Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thero. Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended this event.

Speaking to the media following the event, Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa confirmed his participation at the Independence day celebrations to be held tomorrow while former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that he was not invited as he was a former official.

When questioned on the future course of action of Gotabaya Rajapaksa in light of the upcoming elections he noted that he is prepared for anything if it was for the people. He further said that they had even waged war for the sake of the people and that he will fulfil any task that is assigned to him.
