Colombo (News1sr): A frightening injury to Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne overshadowed other events on the field on the second day of the second Test against Australia today. However, it is reported that Karunarathne is now in a stable condition.
At the start of play for the day at Manuka Oval in Canberra playing in their first innings, Australia were 384 for the loss of 4 wickets. Kurtis Patterson's maiden Test century propelled Australia to a commanding 5 for 534. Australian skipper Tim Pain was unbeaten on 45.
Dimuth Karunarathne and Lahiru Thirimanne got the touring Lankans off to a good start in their reply after Australia declared on 534. Unfortunately, Karunaratne was hit by on his helmet by a vicious bouncer and was taken off the field on a stretcher. He was later shown being taken to a hospital by ambulance.
He was on 46 at the time of the incident. Lahiru Thirimanne scored 41. At stumps, Sri Lanka was 123-3, still trailing Australia by 411 runs.
