MP Wimal Weerawansa appeals to quash court ruling on his book

Colombo (News 1st) - Leader of the National Freedom Front MP Wimal Weerawansa filed an appeal with the Supreme Court today (January 24) seeking to quash the ruling of the Colombo Commercial High Court delivered against him on the book, "Netta Wenuwata Etta ". Attorney's for the MP handed over the appeal to the Colombo Commercial High Court to be directed to the Supreme Court. On the 11th of January, the Colombo Commercial High Court ordered Weerawansa to pay Rs. 10 million in compensation to JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva for publishing and distributing the book titled "Neththa Venuwata Etta" in violation of provisions of the Intellectual Property Act. Further MP Weerawansa was ordered to pay a statutory loss by considering the revenue earned through the sale of this book along with the due court charges. The court also ordered him to destroy all the printed books.
