Sabaragamuwa University students rally against PM Wickremesinghe

Colombo (News 1st) - Students of the University of Sabaragamuwa, staged a protest opposite the university, this morning. The demonstration was held in protest against Ranil Wickremesinghe's proposed visit to declare open the medical faculty of the University. The students marched from the Sabaragamuwa University premises and held the demonstration opposite the main entrance of the university. They allege that the medical faculty, which is to be declared open tomorrow is being used by the administration to gain political mileage. The state that the faculty was the result of their struggle over the years. Chairman of the students' federation of Sabaragamuwa University Nishshanka Gamage stated that the vice-chancellor had invited the PM to open the faculty of medicine to further his own political agenda adding that the PM is someone who attempted to privatise education. He noted that Wickremesinghe does not have any moral right to be at the opening ceremony.
