COLOMBO (News 1st) - The ceremony to mark the completion of reclamation work at the Port City Colombo was held today (January 16). 'Xin Har Long', the last of the four state of the art dredgers used for the sand mining operation left the project site during the ceremony today (January 16). Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan and several other dignitaries were present at the occasion. 269 hectares of land from the ocean has been fully reclaimed, and the ground is now set for the second phase of the project. The Port City Colombo will be made up of five different precincts including the Financial District, Central Park Living, Island Living, The Marina, and the International Island. The construction of the Colombo Port city project was launched on the 16th of September 2014, under the patronage of the Chinese President Xi Jinping and former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. A highway adjoining Katunayake is also due to be constructed in the port city which consists of several state of the art facilities.
