CMC Mayor calls on new Western Province Governor

Colombo (News 1st) - Western Province Governor Azath Salley, met with the Mayor of Colombo Rosy Senanayake today. The meeting was held at the Governor's Office in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte. Whilst the Mayor of Colombo had congratulated Azath Salley on his appointment as Governor, the duo had also discussed traffic congestion in Colombo, road development and the eradication of drug abuse. Governor of Western Province Azath Salley stated that the city should be kept clean and beautiful. He noted that international cricket venues, such as the P. Sara Oval and the R. Premadasa stadium, are in a very pathetic situation. The governor had reminded the mayor of the CMC that these are responsibilities that should be executed by the CMC and the Police. He also noted that they had discussed the growing drug menace, as well as the indiscipline on the roads. The Governor suggested the introduction of a mobile court to fine traffic violators immediately. He explained that is such actions are taken motorists would think twice before committing another offense. He also stated that a program should be introduced to change the mentality of the people inorder to ensure that they use yellow crossings instead of animals such as dogs and cattle. When asked about a possible impeachment motion against him in the Western Provincial Council, the Governor noted that there is nothing to talk about as it would be almost impossible. While noting that a small group was behind such acts. He explained that since entering politics in 1982 no one has been able to point a finger at him for any wrongdoing. The Mayor of Colombo Rosy Senanayake speaking to the media following the meeting stated that they held discussions on an official capacity. While noting that their discussions touched on a number of subjects, the Mayor explained that she also focused on attempting to resolve a number of issued being faced by the CMC.
