Another arrest connected to Sunil Shantha prison break

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An investigation has been launched into a prison officer who aided the infamous drug dealer Sunil Shantha to escape from prison. A senior official of the Ministry of Prison confirmed that the suspect was identified through an investigation conducted by the Prisons Department. The suspect is attached to the Kegalle prison. The official further noted that the Prisons Intelligence Unit will be deployed in order to investigate the relationships that the suspect had maintained with Sunil Shantha. Meanwhile, another individual who had impersonated a prison officer in order to help Sunil Shantha to escape is also under custody. He was arrested by the CID on the 05th of January from Lunugamwehera. In addition, eight prison officers were suspended from their service over the escape of the drug dealer.
