5 new Governors sworn in today

Colombo (News 1st) -5 newly appointed Governors were sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena today. Former Mayor of Colombo, former central provincial councillor, and leader of the National Unite Alliance Azath Sally was sworn in as the Governor of the Western Province. President's Counsel Maithri Gunarathne was sworn in as the governor of the Central Province. Maithri Gunarathne contested and was elected to the Southern Provincial council through the United national party. He later functioned in the council as an independent member. He is currently the general secretary of the United National Freedom Front. Sarath Ekanayake was sworn in as the governor of the North Central province. He served three terms as the Chief Minister of the Central province and has also held a number of provincial ministerial portfolios during his tenure. M.L.A.M. Hizbullah was appointed as the governor of the Eastern Province. Hizbullah has served as the State Minister of rehabilitation, resettlement, Highways and Road Development. he Vacated his parliamentary seat to serve in his new position. Peshala Jayarathne was sworn in as the governor of the Northwestern Province. He served as the chief minister of the North Central province and has also held a number of other important positions. Governor of the Western province Azath Salley stated that he was tricked twice during his political career by the UNP and the first time was when Dr. Gamini Wijesekara was the general secretary he was given a letter stating he will be given the first vacancy in the Western Province council in the year 94.  Salley explained that the second time was during the 2015 election when Ranil Wickremesinghe and Malik Samarawickram sent a letter stating that he would be the first to be appointed to the parliament. He further stated that this is a gift that he had received for working with the president since his victory in the presidential election. In addition, he stated that the education sector of the country should be uplifted and that he will work towards restoring the discipline in the country.
