Mannar Mass grave excavation re-commences

Colombo (News1st): Steps have been taken to further expand the excavation area of the Mannar Mass Grave. The excavation said the excavations at the site re-commenced after a brief suspension since December 21st. Today marks 122 days since the first excavation took place at the site. 283 skeletal remains were recovered from the Mannar Mass Grave so far. 274 of them have been placed at a special enclosure at the Mannar Magistrates Court. Among the recovered bones experts suspect there might be 21 children's remain. A team will fly to the USA to ensure the confidentiality of the samples recovered from the mass grave is secure. The team comprises of Specialist Judicial Medical Officer, a member of the Office of Mission Persons and a Police Officer. Six samples recovered from the mass grave were moved for carbon dating following approval from the Mannar Court.
