A UNP common candidate for the next election

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister Gamini Jayawickrama of the UNP expressed confidence that the backbenchers of the party would remain with the party and not act as independent MPs. He continued to say that not everyone cannot be handed with Ministerial positions and that those who remain patient will win and those who don't will be rejected by the people. Meanwhile, Minister Ashok Abeysinghe commenting on the upcoming Presidential election stated that the UNP hopes to put forward a candidate for the election and work towards making the UNP candidate, a common candidate. The Minister noted that the candidate in question will be named soon after the announcement of an election. Also commenting on the matter, Minister Gamain Jayawickrama noted that they have recognized Ranil Wickremesinghe as a possible candidate since he is a person recognized by the entire world. However, the minister requested the media not to ask about the next PM as this should be a decision left to the people
