MET Dept. weather warning for the next six hours

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of severe thunderstorm and heavy rain accompanied by severe lightning roughly during the next six hours. The warning predicts over 75 mm of rain with gusty winds up-to 70-80 kmph during thundershowers. The warning has been issued to the;

• Sabaragamuwa Province
• Western Province
• Central Province
• Galle District
• Matara District

Advice from the MET Dept.

• Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
• Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open bodies of water.
• Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances.
• Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors, and boats etc.
• Beware of fallen trees and power lines
