President orders authorities to expedite flood relief

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary steps in order to provide relief to those affected by severe rains and floods in the Mulathivu, Kilinochchi and Mannar provinces. The President has urged that all district secretaries be given the necessary finances and facilities to ensure that continuous reliefs are being provided. The Disaster Management Centre confirmed that over 44,000 people have been affected as a result of floods and that over 8,000 people have been displaced.
