DIG Nalaka De Silva remanded till January 2, 2019

COLOMBO (News 1st) - DIG Nalaka De Silva and Indian national Marsili Thomas were further remanded till January 2, 2019. They were arrested over an alleged plot to assassinate high profile individuals including the President and Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. They were further remanded when produced before Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake today (December 19). The Magistrate announced that the particular court does not have the power to grant bail to DIG Nalaka De Silva as the charges filed against him fall under the Counter-Terrorism Act. Thereby, the Magistrate ordered for Nalaka De Silva to be held in remand custody until the case is concluded. The CID informed the court, that the deleted phone conversation recording from the mobile phone of Namal Kumara was recovered in Hong Kong. A flash drive containing the recovered data was handed over to court today.
