Three apprehended for the transportation of timber

COLOMBO (News 1st) - One person has been arrested by the Wanathawilluwa police for the transportation of teak wood. He was arrested at the 6th-mile post, Wanathawilluwa. The police confirmed that the arrest had been made when they had examined a lorry near a police barricade based on a tip-off. Police said the stock of wood was cut from Morapathawa, Wanathawilluwa. The suspect is due to be produced before the Puttalam magistrate court today (December 17). Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested from Atamba Oya, Medirigiriya with a stock of wood. The raid was carried out this morning (December 17) based on a tip-off received by the Medirigiriya Police OIC. The stock of timber was seized when it was being transported from Atamba Oya to Medirigiriya. The suspects are residents of Medirigiriya and they are due to be produced before the Hingurakgoda District court.
