Katuwana protesters blame the Police for civilian death

Colombo (News 1st) - A tense situation was reported after a group from Katuwana Hambantota staged a protest opposite the Katuwana police station last night (Dec 12). The Police media division stated that four policemen who were on patrol duty had seen an injured person collapsed on the road and had admitted him to the hospital. The individual had died upon admission to the hospital. Police state that the protesters blamed the four police officers for the man's death and protested in front of the station. They have damaged police property and injured the four Police officers. They have been admitted to the Walasmulla hospital. Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the Police Special Task Force was called in to control the situation, adding that tear gas was used to disperse the protesters. Investigations are currently underway.
