Further action on Singapore FTA temporarily suspended

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Further action on the Sri Lanka-Singapore Free Trade Agreement has been temporarily suspended. Secretary to the Ministry of International Trade and Investment Promotions ST Kodikara said that the suspension will be in effect till the committee appointed to review the agreement submits its recommendations and the petitions filed against the agreement have been examined. The report which was compiled by a committee chaired by Professor W.D. Lakshman was presented to the President on Monday (December 10) . It highlighted a number of provisions in the agreement that are illegal as well as clauses that are detrimental to Sri Lanka. The committee had recommended that the agreement be reviewed.
