Suspect remanded over murder of a journalist in 2006

Colombo (News1st): Chinthaka Warna Kumara of the Sri Lanka Army Gemunu Watch infantry regiment who was arrested by the CID over the assassination of Lakbima Journalist Sampath Lakmal De Silva was remanded until the 20th of December. Journalist Sampath Lakmal De Silva was gunned down on the 02nd of July 2006. The suspect was produced before Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama today. The Criminal Investigations Department informed court that another suspect identified as Niroshan Anthony who was a lieutenant of the Gemunu Watch is currently overseas. An order was issued on the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to detain the suspect when he returns to the country so he can be arrested. Court also issued a warrant for his immediate arrest and ordered the CID to seek assistance from INTERPOL.
