Reuters - The race for Oscar started in New York on Monday (November 26) at the 28th Annual IFP Gotham Awards. Ten trophies were handed out at this year's ceremony, which honors independent films and series. Special Gotham tributes were made to actors Rachel Weisz, Willem Dafoe and director Paul Greengrass. "It's very humbling, it's very moving. I was looking at the list of the people who've been honored, you know, years before me. I'm showing them an incredible gang of really impressive women. So, I'm just moved and thrilled to be part of the Gothams," said Weisz. In all, thirty-five films and series were nominated including Barry Jenkin's 'If Beale Street Could Talk', 'The Wife' starring Glenn Close and the ensemble cast of 'The Favourite.' The event is considered to be the unofficial start to the award season.
